Celebrating the Light on Human Right’s Day, 10th of Dec, was the initiative of artist Shulamit Ashkenazi. After participating in our Interfaith course for women, Shulamit became quite an activist at Open House. She brings Jewish and Arab children together through her artistic creativity. Previously, she held an activity creating ‘Sukkah’ models with the children.

This time children from our summer camp and new children that Shulamit inspired to come from her home town of Nes Ziona participated in the celebration together with their parents. There was lively discussion of the significance of Light in our traditions and the children decorated candles. They played a game in both Hebrew and Arabic, watched a performance of Flamenco by children their age and learned a few steps themselves from their teacher, a professional dancer. Of course, at the end of this joyful evening everybody received chocolates from Santa Claus.
